MICHAEL HALL
|
|
Originally from the UK, Michael was a jewel expert in another life before
coming to Australia in 2002 and finishing as dux in Wine Science at Charles
Sturt University in 2005. Since
then, he has worked with some impressive Australian names including Cullen,
Giaconda, Henschke, Shaw and Smith, Coldstream Hills, Veritas and in France with
Domaine Leflaive, Meo-Camuzet, Vieux Telegraphe and Trevallon. Michael continues to work at
Rocland in Nuriootpa, where he is exposed to new ideas and attitudes, while he
makes his own wines. Michael is a
strong believer in terroir:
‘I don't believe there's one ideal, homogenous taste for any given wine
style, to which we all aspire, but rather that its beauty is in its diversity
and capacity to express the particular conditions of a great site at a given
time. I don't seek consistency in what I make and instead actively look for
vintage variation. I seek complexity, elegance, balance, personality. I want to
make wines that are loved by some people, not liked by
everyone.’
