Champagne Michel Gonet
|
|
Since Charles Gonet founded the house in 1802, seven generations have
carried on his traditions. In 1973,
Michel Gonet, whose Champagnes bear his name today, expanded and modernised the
cellars in Avize, to further enhance the wine’s quality. The family-owned house has 40 hectares
of excellent terroirs around Avize
(15 kilometres south of Epernay) on the Côte des Blancs. A Blanc de Blanc (Chardonnay) specialist,
their vines are planted to 80% Chardonnay and the remaining 20% to Pinot
Noir. The chalky soils, cool
northerly winds and elevated sites (exposed to the south and protected from
inclement weather in the valley) make for an exceptional Champagne terroirs, most worthy of Michel Gonet’s
Grand Cru
classification.
Michel Gonet’s awards include: Médaille d'or at Concours général agricole
de Paris 2003 for the Prestige 1998; Médaille d'or at Concours de Macon
1999, Grand prix d'excellence vinalies 2000, London 2001 and Bruxelles 2000 for
the Prestige 1996; Médaille d’argent at the Concours
des Vinalies 2009 for the Blanc de Blancs
Grand Cru 2004; Médaille d’argent at the Effervescents du Monde 2008 for the
Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru
2002.
